The “Karen’s Kids” fund provides resources to children in need at Arongen Elementary School in the Shenendehowa School District.

Generosity - Kindness - Compassion - Discretion

It has been less than six months since The “Karen’s Kids” program was established with a simple mission: to help children in need, with generosity, kindness, compassion and discretion.

According to Arongen School Counselor, Tracy Rodriguez, the effort has a wonderful enhancement to school experience of many children in need. The fund was especially helpful as local families struggled during the recent holiday season. One student’s parent contacted the counselor’s office in despair saying she had nothing to give her young children for Christmas and they did not know where to turn. The family had come upon hard times economically and they were unable to spare the resources for a humble holiday celebration or gifts for the youths. Karen’s Kids Fund was able to help the family by providing gifts of clothes and toys for the children to open Christmas morning. The family was overcome with emotion and is appreciation!

Another child needed clothing. They were wearing the same tattered clothes ever day. The condition was impacting their social interaction and self esteem. Funds from Karen’s Kids were used to update the child’s wardrobe and brighten their outlook.

Another student wanted to play a musical instrument this year but the family couldn’t afford the instrument rental and supplies. Karen’s Kids made it possible for the child to participate by covering the cost. The musician now smiles confidently every time they are asked her how the music lessons are going.

There will be more children in need in the weeks and months to come. The administration of Arongen has expressed that it is great to have the resource at their fingertips to help the families they serve.

Tracy Rodriguez summed it up best in a recent email that she sent to The Field family. “It’s so nice to know where to turn to help our families. Thank you for making these things possible. What a wonderful way to keep Karen’s loving spirit alive—I’m sure she is delighted!
